I'm thrilled to announce the release of "BASS BALL Bunny Brunel and Friends" produced by Bunny Brunel and Stanley Clarke. I played drums on the third track "Stand Out" written by Armand Sabal-Lecco. It features Bunny Brunel, Stanley Clarke, and Armand Sabal-Lecco on bass, and Monette Marino on percussion! The whole album is awesome and features so many amazing musicians!

Check out the awesome article in Bass Player Magazine:

"Introducing BUNNY BRUNEL & FRIENDS - BASS BALL, an exciting new CD produced by Bunny Brunel and Stanley Clarke, featuring incredible performances by Billy Sheehan, Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, Hadrien Ferraud, Larry Dunn, and more. ....
***
Bass Ball" features a Who’s Who of drummers with Dennis Chambers, John Wackerman, Simon Phillips, Steve Ferrone, Johan Franzon, Ike Wiley, Clayton Cameron, and Bryan Cabrera. On Percussion are Chris Moraga and Monette Moreno. Playing keyboards on a few of the tunes is Nick Smith and Larry Dunn (Earth, Wind & Fire). Dunn composed a song with his wife Luisa called “Lulu”—a track filled with layered keyboards and complex, melodic arrangements. Luisa Dunn adds her lush background vocals to the tune. “Lulu” also features flutist Kaylene Peoples (who also plays flute on two additional tracks).

"Weathers Report on Live Jazz in Orange County, Episode 12: This Ain’t Stenography, This Ain’t Calisthenics, This Is Art!

ROBERT WEATHERS

What a joy last night to witness twin threat Bryan Cabrera (Berklee-trained drums and Sinatra/Bennett-attuned vocals) in a genuinely felicitous pairing with keyboard wonder Ron Kobayashi at the Port Restaurant and Bar. A true treat hearing Ron play Fender Rhodes (electric piano) lines with his right hand (as he more typically is featured on the Port's grand piano)...and no one is ever going to explain to my satisfaction how in the heck Ron is able to solo intricate right-hand lines up and down the piano, all the while holding down no less complex bass lines with his left! And all of this would only be calisthenics (what bass great Charlie Mingus called "stenography") were it not for Ron's consistently high (and deep) sense of artistry. His technique only ever serves the music, plain and simple. And if you haven't heard Ron recently, then it's time you get down and support him in his regular Tuesday evening engagement at Ali H. Zadeh's Port Restaurant and Bar. Bryan, you're such a blast to watch and hear: your crooning takes us all back, and your drumming is fully cutting-edge. Here's to Bryan Cabrera and Ron Kobayashi. Get down to the Port Restaurant and Bar Tuesday nights, and now Saturday evenings, too, for the real deal!"

"Weathers Report on Live Jazz in Orange County, Episode 18: Come Fill Your Cup!

ROBERT WEATHERS·SATURDAY

What an absolute blast last night to participate in the wildly fun and creative jazz jam hosted by Bayside Restaurant in Newport Beach --- all of this on the heels of another, truly stellar performance by ultimately soulful songstress Andrea Miller and her connected-at-the-hip counterpart on brilliantly musical piano, none other than Maestro Ron Kobayashi. Surely, Andrea’s and Ron’s offering up of the The Beatles’ immortal “Let It Be” was definitive: Andrea imbuing Paul McCartney’s original vision with Aretha Franklin-esque richness...Ron’s piano solo an homage to recently parted Leon Russell, himself a loving messenger of John/Paul/George/Ring0.

As for the jam, what an enormous embarrassment of riches that was! Favorite soloists --- other than the beloved leader/hub of the sound-wheel, Mr. Kobayashi --- included Jon Orefice on flugelhorn, Tim Miller on bass (his closing arco solo was stunningly daring), Rich on truly tasty jazz guitar, and a man who later on simply stole the show, and everyone's hearts, Harun Oncu, on what has got to be the funkiest, most energized sax playing this side of Kenny Garrett's immortal teamwork alongside jazz god, Miles Davis. Wow, Harun, what a force of nature you are!

Many thanks to drummer extraordinaire, Bryan Cabrera (move over Buddy Rich!), for sharing his drum stool with me throughout the night. It's always a treat to see/hear you perform, Bryan, and Ol' Blue Eyes ain't got nothin' on ya, either... ;-) ..."
